Chicago native David Drake sat down for this latest No Jumper interview and spoke in length about the lack of diversity in his home town both socially and musically. He and Adam went in on the rise of Chief Keef and drill music, the lack of respect for trap music and it’s Godfather Gucci Mane as well as the world of music journalism and how he got started.
I appreciated the trading of knowledge on both ends, giving a genre of music many dismiss a new intelligent perspective. For me this hits close to home as someone aspiring to be in Drake’s shoes and knowing the desire to understand why and how the music we listen to came to be is present in journalism feels damn good.
